Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
